Employee Experience: Co-Creating a Workplace Where Employees Choose to Spend Their Talent
10/06/2020 at 1:00 PM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 10/06/2020
10/06/2020 at 1:00 PM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 10/06/2020 Studies over the past two decades have shown us that worldwide employee engagement levels are alarmingly low. Business leaders and human resources practitioners today still struggle to move the needle on this critical measurement of organizational health. The coronavirus pandemic along with social and racial unrest have created more challenges to addressing the current state of engagement. Now, with remote work as the new normal in many sectors, leaders are faced with an even greater challenge: engaging their people in the current environment from a distance. In this session, Jonathan Villaire, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care's “Employee Experience Guy,” will show you how it’s possible to drive engagement among a remote workforce by focusing on the employee experience. Participants will: 1. Understand what employee experience really means 2. Understand what co-creating the employee experience means 3. Learn how to adopt (and convince leaders to a adopt) a mindset that employees are consumers and you are selling an experience

10/07/2020 at 10:00 AM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 10/07/2020 It is no longer a war for talent; today it is a war for jobs and hiring practices need to change just as dramatically as the job market has. For the past 20 years the majority of employers have relied on behavioral interviewing techniques to identify promising job applicants. Unfortunately, behavioral questions screen people in highly predictable ways and encourage hiring decisions based more on an applicant’s presentation skills rather than on the only reliable predictor of future performance — the person’s actual past performance and achievements. Achievement-based interviews and evidence-based selection facilitate quality hiring decisions across-the-board. Participants will learn why achievements and evidence are today’s most important hiring metrics, how to incorporate these techniques into their selection process, as well as the five specific questions interviewers can use to ferret out important facts and truths about every applicant.

DEI Lunch & Learn Panel: Belonging Beyond the Binary - Building an Inclusive Environment
10/07/2020 at 12:00 PM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 10/07/2020
10/07/2020 at 12:00 PM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 10/07/2020 According to the National Center for Transgender Equality, more than 25% of transgender people have lost a job due to bias and more than 75% have experienced some form of workplace discrimination. Gender equity in the workplace is an issue that grows increasingly important as transgender (trans) and non-binary (nb) identities are discussed in laws, policies, the media, etc. and as people more openly share their gender identities and expressions. Join this dynamic panel to learn from transgender and non-binary individuals’ lived experiences, including the intersections of other parts of their identities, and their own personal journeys that brought them to where they are today. Panelists will share workplace experiences, highlighting what specifically does and does not contribute to an inclusive environment, and recommended solutions. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of what it means to be a transgender or non-binary person and how to practice gender equity in their personal lives and workplaces.

10/07/2020 at 2:00 PM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 10/07/2020 One of the biggest changes we’ve experienced in our work lives as a result of COVID-19 is where and how we work. The Environment of our work is no longer a singular concept that employers control, but is varied, individualized and transformed. Our programs that make up total rewards like compensation and benefits, career and wellbeing, are being revisited in light of the flexibility. All of this is creating a need for a more granular segmentation of employee needs as we each figure out what we need from employers in this new shape of work.

(pre) Onboarding Best Practices
10/08/2020 at 3:00 PM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 10/08/2020
10/08/2020 at 3:00 PM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 10/08/2020 An accepted offer is no longer a “breath of fresh air”; its now one of the most worrisome times in the hiring process. The result of this worrying is typically a rushed (Pre)-onboarding process and a less productive new employee. At Mercury, the moment the digital offer is signed, our new hires receive specialized content about Mercury Systems and our journey as an organization. Its begins the indoctrination of new employees into one of Mercury's greatest assets; our culture! Building a sustainable and scalable onboarding program is both challenging and necessary, especially when a company is experiencing rapid growth. An essential element to onboarding success is to introduce new employees to company culture, values and expectations as quickly as possible. A traditionalist approach to onboarding will no longer satisfy the needs of the 2020 employee and if an organization hopes to STRIVE vs SURVIVE they must be more proactive in the (Pre)-Onboarding stage.

Improving the Internship Experience for Students & Employers
10/13/2020 at 11:00 AM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 10/13/2020
10/13/2020 at 11:00 AM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 10/13/2020 Internships give students access to life-changing opportunities that offer real-world experience, on-the-job training and the chance to explore career aspirations more fully. Employers, meanwhile, utilize internships to build the employment pipeline, and state and federal government benefits from an educated, experienced workforce. But despite internships being a win-win all the way around, student access to high-quality, paid internships is unequal, with demand far outpacing supply, and many employers (particularly small employers) struggle with the intern recruitment and management process. This session will explore recent research, conducted by the nonprofit American Student Assistance, on the internship challenges employers face, as well as students’ motivation for seeking out internships. HR professionals will learn new, replicable strategies used by several forward-thinking businesses to increase the availability of internships overall and enhance the intern experience for student and employer alike. Through a facilitated conversation, participants will be asked to share their own internship trials, lessons learned and best practices, and brainstorm additional solutions to bring internships to scale so they remain a staple of experiential learning. Kevin Fudge is director of advocacy with ASA, a national nonprofit committed to helping kids know themselves, know their options, and make informed choices to achieve their education and career goals.

Transformational Change: HR’s Role in Driving Leadership and Engagement
10/13/2020 at 11:00 AM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 10/13/2020
10/13/2020 at 11:00 AM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 10/13/2020 Major change efforts occur in companies across industries and the globe, yet data suggests that nearly 70% of these initiatives fail. The failures result in both lost profit and time, and can lead to disruption of business operations. Research indicates that leaders are not always prepared to successfully lead major transformational change efforts. Most leaders are equipped to lead developmental change when addressing an improvement in a process or system that already exists; and most are also equipped to lead transitional change when working to replace what already exists with something entirely different. But few leaders are ready to lead transformational change when the change is so significant it requires a shift in culture, behavior and mindset to implement and sustain over time. This session will focus on the definition of transformational change, as well as two important areas - leadership and engagement - that organizations must understand and address to successfully execute and sustain the change. The program will share two tools that will help your organization address these areas, and provide for some practical hands-on time and discussion. HR professionals have a leadership role to play in organizational change. Understanding that role, and what you can bring to the table is critically important to the success of your business. Leading in this important area is a demonstrable way for HR to have impact on an organization’s leaders and business results, this session will help in that preparation.

10/14/2020 at 12:00 PM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 10/14/2020 Join us for a Lunch & Learn session designed especially for our Emerging HR Professionals Community, but open to all! HR professionals have to influence every day, whether it is convincing a hiring manager to screen a candidate, coaching an employee on having a difficult conversation, or influencing your company’s goals and strategic direction. Although influencing is a key part of our day-to-day roles, we rarely think strategically about how to expand our influence in ways that support our development and amplify our impact to the business. “Expanding Your Influence: Building Trust and Persuading with Impact” explores the universal rules that guide influential behavior and the key tenets to building strategic relationships. Attendees will walk away with a strategic plan for expanding their influence and a set of practical tools to use throughout their journey. Participants will: 1. Understand the universal rules that guide influential behavior 2. Recognize the laws of reciprocity and identify proactive strategies for building strategic relationships 3. Identify the conscious and unconscious behaviors that influence a person’s decision-making process, behaviors, thoughts, and feelings 4. Understand more about their unique skills, abilities, and competencies through an “Awesome Audit” 5. Craft a personalized strategic influence plan

10/07/2020 at 3:45 PM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 10/07/2020 Despite the significant skill gaps in the workforce, organizations are not tapping into the grey talent pool. Deeply experienced and seasoned professionals with a strong record of success and performance. Targeting talent in the over 60 age group is becoming a very important talent pool. My personal story is a very good example of tapping into this talent pool. In May of 2019 I accepted the Head of Human Resources role at UTIMCO at the age of 70. Key Learnings: Understanding the value of seasoned professionals in the War on Talent. Develop sourcing strategies to tap into this talent pool. Tools to start planning for your own "encore" career. On Demand: Making the Most of Workplace Mediation
10/07/2020 at 3:45 PM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 10/07/2020
10/07/2020 at 3:45 PM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 10/07/2020 Companies are expanding their use of mediation of employment relations disputes to achieve better, more cost-effective outcomes, avoid the delay, expense, and drain on company resources of arbitration or litigation. Alternative dispute resolution (ADR) organizations are encouraging parties to utilize mediation as an alternative to a fully processed arbitration. Companies trying to stay “ahead of the curve” are looking to mandatory mediation or stepped alternative dispute resolution processes as alternatives. This workshop will explore how HR professionals can use mediation more effectively. Participants in this workshop will learn: learn how to create a robust mediation program • How to prepare your team for mediation so as to maximize the opportunity for an effective resolution; • How to engage mediators in ways that align them with your team’s mediation objective; • What mediation tactics are counterproductive and what are more likely to succeed, and • How to participate in mediation in ways that actually motivate your employees to reach agreement on terms your company can accept.
